IN THIS LESSON

print and prepare the proof

The sources of proof you found in your research must accompany your supplemental application. If you have original documents, keep them and send a copy; never send the original.

Please be sure all copies or prints are legible. Proof documents should be printed on 8 1/2 x 11” computer paper, they do not need to be printed on legal size paper.

Proof documents you send are uploaded to the computer system the DAR genealogists use to review the supplementals, unless they are readily available online. Therefore, the genealogists are able to zoom in and read the documents, making the need for document abstracts unnecessary unless it is extremely difficult to read or not available online. Additionally, proper citation of online documents or other materials with the website, page numbers, etc., allows the genealogists to go to the document for review.

It is helpful to have the DAR Application Formatting Reference Sheet for DAR Applications (RGG-8002) from June 2024 on hand as you find proof, so that you note the necessary information you will need for the citations. A review of citations and this document is available in the next lesson, Step 7: Citations.
