Congratulations! You have completed and mailed your supplemental application!

The approval time for supplemental applications is much longer than for initial membership applications; at the time of this writing, it was approximately two years.

Your chapter Registrar or other Officers with e-membership access can check the status of your supplemental application verification. You will not receive a notification of verification by mail.

A certificate for your supplemental application is not automatically sent but is available for purchase after the application has been verified. Each certificate is $10, payable by check or money order to the Treasurer General, NSDAR. To order, complete the supplemental certificate request form, which can be found by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. Feel free to click and print it now to have it ready when your supplemental application is verified.

If your supplemental application contains an error or requires additional documentation, you will receive an “AIR” letter for “additional information requested.”

If you receive an AIR letter, you must do additional research to solve the identified issue. Guidance on handling AIR letters can be found on the DAR website on the Supplemental AIR Assistance page. When you have completed the research to resolve the issue, gather all documentation required and reply to the letter by sending copies of these documents along with a copy of the AIR letter. Sending a copy of your original AIR letter will help the Staff Genealogists identify your supplemental application.

You have one year from the date of the DAR Staff Genealogist's initial supplemental review to have the supplemental verified, even when an AIR is sent. Additionally, you are allowed a maximum of three AIR letters before the Staff Genealogist is not obligated to make any further written communication to you.
