IN THIS LESSON

lineage research

You have completed your application with information for your Patriot and the first three generations and checked the DAR Genealogy Research System for any other generations already verified.

You likely have generations that will require additional research. Research proof is required for the following:

  • Generations that were not already verified in the GRS

  • Any generation that was verified in the GRS but whose information does not meet the minimum requirements

  • The child of your Patriot if they are not already proven

  • The residency and service of your Patriot if it does not meet requirements

Proof requirements vary by generation. More information can be found on these requirements in:

  • The DAR Genealogy Guidelines, Part 2, pages 48-71

  • The Ten-Step Manual for Completing a DAR Supplemental Application for an Established Patriot

  • This lesson’s video

There are many resources available for guidance on research, including:

  • The DAR Genealogy Lecture Series

  • The DAR Genealogy Education Programs

  • The DAR Supplemental Application Virtual Support Team

  • Genealogy volunteers from your chapter

  • Debbie’s Lineage Research Corner at https://www.learnwebskills.com/lineage

It is helpful to have the DAR Application Formatting Reference Sheet for DAR Applications (RGG-8002) from June 2024 on hand as you find proof, so that you note the necessary information you will need for the citations. A review of citations and this document is available in the Step 7: Citations.
